Prerequisite
Before you start, read Important safety information and print the following instructions.
The hard disk drive is sensitive. Inappropriate handling might cause damage and permanent loss of data.
Replace the hard disk drive only for upgrade or repair. The hard disk drive is not designed for frequent changes or replacement.
Before replacing the hard disk drive, make a backup copy of all the data that you want to keep.
Do not touch the contact edge of the hard disk drive. Otherwise, the hard disk drive might get damaged.
Do not apply pressure to the hard disk drive.
Do not make the hard disk drive subject to physical shocks or vibration. Put the hard disk drive on a soft material, such as cloth, to absorb physical shocks.
Replacement procedure
Disable the built-in battery. See Disable Fast Startup and the built-in battery.
Turn off the computer and disconnect the computer from ac power and all connected cables.
Close the computer display and turn the computer over.
Remove the base cover assembly. See Base cover assembly.
- Disconnect the hard-disk-drive cable from the system board. Lift the tab and remove the hard disk drive together with its bracket.
- Detach the cable from the hard disk drive.
- Detach the bracket from the hard disk drive.
- Attach the bracket to the new hard disk drive.
- Connect the cable to the new hard disk drive.
- Insert the new hard disk drive together with its bracket 1 and then pivot it downward 2. Ensure that the new hard disk drive is seated in place. Connect the hard-disk-drive cable to the system board.
Reinstall the base cover assembly.
Turn the computer over. Connect the ac power adapter and all disconnected cables to the computer.
