Coin-cell battery

Prerequisite

Before you start, read Important safety information and print the following instructions.

DANGER
If the coin-cell battery is incorrectly replaced, there is danger of an explosion. The coin-cell battery contains a small amount of harmful substance. To avoid possible injury:

  • Replace only with a battery of the type recommended by Lenovo.

  • Keep the battery away from fire.

  • Do not expose it to excessive heat.

  • Do not expose it to water or rain.

  • Do not short-circuit it.

  • Do not drop, crush, puncture the battery, or make it subject to strong forces. Battery abuse or mishandling can cause the battery to overheat, which can cause gasses or flame to "vent" from the battery or coin-cell battery.

Replacement procedure

  1. Disable the built-in battery. See Disable Fast Startup and the built-in battery.

  2. Turn off the computer and disconnect the computer from ac power and all connected cables. Then, close the computer display

  3. Remove the base cover assembly. See Base cover assembly (for T490 and P43s only) or Base cover assembly (for T590 and P53s only).

  4. Detach the connector 1, and then remove the coin-cell battery 2.
    Detach the connector and remove the coin-cell battery.

  5. Install the new coin-cell battery 1, and then attach the connector 2.
    Install the coin-cell battery and attach the connector.

  6. Reinstall the base cover assembly.

  7. Connect the ac power adapter and all disconnected cables to the computer.

  8. Reset the system date and time in the UEFI BIOS menu. See Set the system date and time.
