2.5-inch storage drive

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Read this first: Important safety information.

The 2.5-inch storage drive is only available on some models.

To remove or install a 2.5-inch storage drive, do the following:

Prepare your computer. See Preparing your computer and removing the computer cover.
Locate the desired storage drive bay. See Internal storage drives.
To remove a 2.5-inch storage drive, do the following:
1. Disconnect the signal cable and power cable from the storage drive.
2. Remove the plastic 3.5-inch storage-drive bracket with the 2.5-inch storage drive from the storage drive bay. See Primary storage drive or Secondary storage drive.
3. Flex the sides of the bracket to remove the 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch storage-drive converter from the bracket.

4. Remove the four screws that secure the 2.5-inch storage drive. Then lift the storage drive out of the storage-drive converter.

To install a 2.5-inch storage drive, do the following:
1. Remove the plastic 3.5-inch storage-drive bracket from the storage drive bay. See Primary storage drive or Secondary storage drive.
2. Flex the sides of the bracket to remove the 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch storage-drive converter from the bracket.
3. Install a new 2.5-inch storage drive into the storage-drive converter. Then install the four screws to secure the new storage drive to the storage-drive converter.

4. To install the storage-drive converter into the 3.5-inch storage-drive bracket, flex the bracket and align pin 1, pin 2, pin 3, and pin 4 on the bracket with the corresponding holes in the converter.

5. Install the storage-drive converter with the bracket into the desired storage drive bay. See Primary storage drive or Secondary storage drive.
6. Connect the signal cable and the power cable to the storage drive.
