Memory module

Your computer has four memory slots for installing or replacing DDR4 RDIMMs. When installing or replacing a memory module, use the following guidelines:
To remove or install a memory module, do the following:
  1. Prepare your computer. See Preparing your computer and removing the computer cover.

  2. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.

  3. Locate the memory slots. See Parts on the system board.

  4. Remove any parts that might prevent your access to the memory slots. Depending on your computer model, you might need to remove the PCIe x16 graphics card for easier access to the memory slots. See Full-length PCIe card.

  5. To remove a memory module, open the retaining clips and gently pull the memory module out of the memory slot.

  6. To install a memory module, do the following:
    1. Open the retaining clips of the memory slot into which you want to install the memory module.

    2. Position the new memory module over the memory slot. Ensure that the notch 1 on the memory module is aligned with the key 2 in the slot. Push the memory module straight down into the slot until the retaining clips completely close.

  7. Reinstall the PCIe x16 graphics card if you have removed it.
