M.2 solid-state drive

Prerequisite

Before you start, read Important safety information and print the following instructions.

Attention:

The M.2 solid-state drive is sensitive. Inappropriate handling might cause damage and permanent loss of data.

When handling the M.2 solid-state drive, observe the following guidelines:
  • Replace the M.2 solid-state drive only for upgrade or repair. The M.2 solid-state drive is not designed for frequent changes or replacement.

  • Before replacing the M.2 solid-state drive, make a backup copy of all the data that you want to keep.

  • Do not apply pressure to the M.2 solid-state drive.

  • Do not touch the contact edge or circuit board of the M.2 solid-state drive. Otherwise, the M.2 solid-state drive might get damaged.

  • Do not make the M.2 solid-state drive subject to physical shocks or vibration. Put the M.2 solid-state drive on a soft material, such as cloth, to absorb physical shocks.

Your computer has two M.2-solid-state-drive slots. When you configure the M.2-solid-state-drive slot in the UEFI BIOS menu, ensure that you select the correct menu item. If your computer is installed with only one M.2 solid-state drive, ensure that the M.2 solid-state drive is installed into slot 0
M.2 SSD slots.

Replacement procedure

  1. Disable the built-in battery. See Disable Fast Startup and the built-in battery.

  2. Turn off the computer and disconnect the computer from ac power and all connected cables.

  3. Close the computer display and turn the computer over.

  4. Remove the bottom door. See Bottom door.

  5. Remove the M.2 solid-state drive:
    1. Open the Mylar film that covers the M.2 solid-state drive 1.

    2. Remove the screw that secures the M.2 solid-state drive 2 and then the drive pivots upward and remove the drive 3.


    Remove the M.2 solid-state drive.

  6. Install a new M.2 solid-state drive:
    1. Open the Mylar film 1.

    2. Align the contact edge of the new M.2 solid-state drive with the key in the slot 2. Then, carefully insert the drive into the slot at an angle of about 20 degrees and pivot the M.2 solid-state drive downward 3 .

    3. Install the screw to secure the M.2 solid-state drive 4.

    4. Cover the M.2 solid-state drive with the Mylar film.


    Install the M.2 solid-state drive.

  7. Reinstall the bottom door.

  8. Turn over the computer. Connect the ac power adapter and all disconnected cables to the computer.
