This document describes the steps for installing the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 8 operating system and updating the system BIOS and drivers on supported ThinkCentre(R) and ThinkStation(R) desktop computers. This document also contains hints, tips, and limitations found during testing of Windows 8 on the ThinkCentre and ThinkStation desktop computers specified in this document. In some cases, this document will suggest that you take steps prior to installing or upgrading to Windows 8. Therefore, it is recommended that you read the entire document before installing Windows 8, and follow the instructions provided.

Lenovo has tested and confirmed that the operating system of the following ThinkCentre and ThinkStation desktop computers can be upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8. However, depending on hardware and software configuration, your computer might not be upgradeable, even if it is listed below. Refer to the following sections for details.

While upgrading your computer operating system to Windows 8, Windows 8 setup program will scan your computer to check if your computer is ready for Windows 8. By viewing the results of the scan operation, you can review issues that might prevent you from upgrading to Windows 8.

If there are any peripheral devices installed on your computer, you need to check if they are compatible with Windows 8. Go to Microsoft Windows 8 home page and the peripheral device manufacturers' Web sites for compatibility information. You might need to download device drivers for the peripheral devices.
You also need to check if all of your necessary application software is compatible with Windows 8. Go to the application software manufacturers' Web sites for compatibility information. You might also want to check Microsoft Windows 8 home page for any known compatibility issues with application software.
