Installation Readme


Introduction
============
ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is a desktop security and convenience
product. Its components provide a sophisticated security architecture
protecting your computer from attacks by unauthorized persons. ThinkVantage
Fingerprint Software offers top-level user convenience, it is easy to
install and easy to use.

ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software enables:
- reliable user authentication based on fingerprint recognition
- boot protection using fingerprints
- easy access to a computer using fingerprints (Logon Protector)

ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is designed with regard to needs of
common users. No special knowledge is required to use it, despite the
fact that it is top-level software using the most progressive security
technologies.

This update requires approximately 40MB of space on your hard drive.

Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation.


Supported hardware
==================
This software may be used with the following hardware:

- ThinkPad systems with integrated fingerprint reader
- USB fingerprint keyboard
- USB fingerprint reader (part number 73P4774)

Note: This software is not supported on 3000 Family desktops or 3000
Family notebooks with integrated fingerprint reader.

System requirements
===================
ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software can be installed on any computer with a free
USB port running one of the following operating systems:

- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Home
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
- Microsoft Windows Vista

Administrator rights are required to install or uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint
Software.

Downloading the package
=======================
1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the
   downloaded files.


Extracting the package
======================

Under Windows Vista
-------------------
1.  Click Start, then click Start Search.
2.  Type tfs56-32.exe in the search field, then click Search Everywhere.
    This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3.  Double-click the tfs56-32.exe icon. You may see a dialog stating
    "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog,
    click Continue.
4.  Click Next. Read the license agreement.
5.  Click I accept the license agreement.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to
    C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\tfs56.
8.  Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard
    drive.
9.  Click Finish.

Under Windows 2000 or XP
------------------------
1. Click Start, select Search, then click All files and folders.
2. Type tfs56-32.exe in the search field, then click Search.
   This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the tfs56-32.exe icon.
4.  Click Next. Read the license agreement.
5.  Click I accept the license agreement.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to
    C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\tfs56.
8.  Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard
    drive.
9.  Click Finish.


Installing the package
======================

Under Windows Vista (32-bit only)
---------------------------------
1.  Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\tfs56\Setup.exe, then click OK. The setup
    program will run. Follow all onscreen prompts to complete the
    installation.


Under Windows 2000 or XP
------------------------

If you are running a 32 bit operating system:

1.  Click Start, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\tfs56Setup.exe, then click OK. The setup
    program will run. Follow all onscreen prompts to complete the
    installation.

If you are running a 64 bit operating system:

1.  Click Start, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\tfs56\Setup.msi, then click OK. The setup
    program will run. Follow all onscreen prompts to complete the
    installation.
