Installation Readme


System Update downloads data updates for software, drivers, and BIOS
from a Lenovo server directly over the Internet without requiring
specific user knowledge of where the package is located or if it is
needed by the target system.

Other ways in which ThinkVantage Technologies help you keep your system 
up to date and secure are:

- ThinkVantage Technologies Active Update which allows your
  ThinkVantage Technologies to update on the fly.
- Provides direct connection to Lenovo Service and Support for
  ThinkPad and ThinkCentre drivers, software, and BIOS updates.
- Automatically downloads and installs critical updates on a
  scheduled basis.
- Helps you maximize your system performance and minimize security
  vulnerability.

ThinkVantage System Update is supported on the following systems:

- 3000 C100 and N100 notebook systems
- 3000 J100 and J105 desktop systems
- All ThinkCentre systems

- ThinkPad G40, G41
- ThinkPad R30, R31, R32, R40, R40e, R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R51e, R52, R60, R60e
- ThinkPad T20, T21, T22, T23, T30, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p, T60, T60p
- ThinkPad X20, X21, X22, X23, X24, X30, X31, X32, X40, X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s
- ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t


ThinkVantage System Update will support additional models as content
is created for them.


Software requirements
=====================
The following operating systems are supported: 

- Microsoft Windows 2000 
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home

Microsoft .NET Framework is required for ThinkVantage System
Update to work properly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that
Microsoft .NET Framework is installed on your system.


Downloading the package
=======================
1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the
   downloaded files.


Installing the package
======================
Uninstall any previous versions of ThinkVantage System Update or
IBM Update Connector that are installed on your system. After you
have uninstalled any previous versions:

1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders.
2. Type systemupdatelight-2006-07-11.exe in the search field, then
   click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the systemupdatelight-2006-07-11.exe icon.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
5. ThinkVantage System Update will start automatically after
   installation is complete.


Silent installation of System Update
====================================
System Update can be installed in an unattended (silent) mode 
allowing you to launch the installation with the default settings.
If you wish to install System Update in an unattended mode you should 
follow the steps listed below:

1. Open a command prompt (DOS) session.
2. Using DOS commands go to the folder where you saved the file you 
   downloaded from the System Update download page.
3. Launch the silent installation by adding the following parameters
   to the downloaded filename -s -a /s /v"/qn". For example, 

   systemupdatelight-2006-07-11 -s -a /s /v"/qn" 

4. Wait for the installation to finish.
5. Close the command prompt session.
