Installation Readme


Package Builder enables you to modify or create update packages. Update
packages are comprised of an XML Descriptor file, the update itself, a ReadMe
file, any package license file, and any optional detection modules. Each
update package has an XML Descriptor file that contains metadata used to
describe the conditions that must exist on the client system and how to install
the update on the client system. 

If an update meets the requirements you define with the XML Descriptor file, it
is considered an applicable update for the targeted system. An XML Descriptor
file contains the necessary information for an update package to be recognized
and handled by Package Builder.

1. 5 new methods are added to reduce dependecies for external routines.
2. Saves comments in XML Descriptor.
3. Replaced "Redirect" tag to simple logic to detect version of the packages 
   installed.

ThinkVantage Package Builder supports additional systems as content is
created for them.


Software requirements
=====================
The following operating systems are supported: 

- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Home
- Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)

Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service pack 1 or Microsoft.NET 
Framework version 2.0 is required for Package Builder to work
properly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.


Downloading the package
=======================
1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the
   downloaded files.


Installing the package
======================
Uninstall any previous version of ThinkVantage Package Builder. After you
have uninstalled any previous versions:

Under Windows Vista
-------------------
1. Click Start, then click Start Search.
2. Type packagebuilder214-2008-4-29.txt in the search field, then
   click Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just
   downloaded.
3. Double-click the executable icon. You might see a dialog
   stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If
   you see this dialog, click Continue.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Under Windows XP or 2000
------------------------
1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders.
2. Type packagebuilder214-2008-4-29.txt in the search field, then
   click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the executable icon.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.


Silent installation of Package Builder
======================================
Package Builder can be installed in an unattended (silent) mode 
allowing you to launch the installation with the default settings.
If you want to install Package Builder in an unattended mode, 
follow the steps listed below:

1. Open a command prompt (DOS) session.
2. Using DOS commands go to the folder where you saved the file you 
   downloaded from the Package Builder download page.
3. Launch the silent installation by adding the following parameters
   to the downloaded filename -s -a /s /v"/qn". For example, 

   packagebuilder214-2008-4-29.txt  -s -a /s /v"/qn" 

4. Wait for the installation to finish.
5. Close the command prompt session.
