Features include: - Reliable user authentication based on fingerprint recognition - boot protection using fingerprints - easy access to a computer using fingerprints (Logon Protector) ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is designed with regard to needs of common users.No special knowledge is required to use it, despite the fact that it is top-level software using the most progressive security technologies. This update requires approximately 40MB of space on your hard disk. NOTE ==== It is required to upgrade the Fingerprint Reader to at least version 5.6.2 before upgrading to 5.8.5. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files. INSTALLATION ============ Necessary drivers for fingerprint hardware are installed during the software installation. ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software provides the following installation options: - Local installation through the setup wizard - Silent installation - SMS installation During the installation process, all required device drivers are installed. After the installation is complete, the computer will restart and the user will be guided through the steps of enrolling his or her fingerprint. If you intend to use an external fingerprint sensor, it is recommended that you disconnect the fingerprint sensor before you start the installation. After the computer restarts, you will be prompted when to reconnect the fingerprint sensor. If needed, you can find the the device drivers and instructions in tc-driver folder. LOCAL INSTALLATION THROUGH THE SETUP WIZARD =========================================== ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software installation is carried out by the Setup wizard. It is recommended to read explaining texts in wizard screens to avoid potential problems. The detailed description of the installation procedure can be found in the user documentation. To start the installation procedure, do the following: 1. Locate the folder where you downloaded the installation file. 2. Double-click the fprx64_585_6014ww.msi file. The wizard opens. 3. Carefully follow the instructions provided by the wizard to complete the installation. SILENT INSTALLATION =================== ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software also supports silent installation. 64-bit OS: 1. Locate fprx64_585_6014ww.msi file in the folder where you unpacked the package. 2. Run the Setup.msi file using the following syntax: msiexec.exe /i fprx64_585_6014ww.msi /q Example: msiexec /i fprx64_585_6014ww.msi /q INSTALLDIR="F:\Program Files\Protector Suite QL" You can specify the following properties: INSTALLDIR Installation directory CTLCNTR Set to 0 if you do not display Control Center on startup; default = 1 (display). PSLOGON Fingerprint Logon; default = 0 (disabled), set to 1 to install the fingerprint logon. POSSSO Single sign-on; default = 0 (disabled), set to 1 to enable single sign-on Non-administrator user privileges ENROLLSELF Allow fingerprint enrollment; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. DELETESELF Allow fingerprint deletion; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. IMPORTSELF Allow import and export; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. ENROLLTBX Allow selection of fingerprint for power-on; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. REVEALPWD Allow Windows password recovery; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. Anti-hammering protection (Lockout Settings) LOCKOUT Enable anti-hammering protection; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. LOCKOUTCOUNT Maximum retries. Default is 5, you can use any value. LOCKOUTTIME Timeout in miliseconds. Default is 120 000, you can use any value up to 360 000. Authentication timeout (Inactivity Settings) GUITMENABLE Enable Authentication timeout in miliseconds; default = 1 (enabled), set to 0 to disable. GUITMTIME Authentication timeout duration. Default is 120 000, you can use any value up to 360 000. PWDLOGON FP-only logon for non-admin users. Enabled, set to 0 to disable. NOPOPPAPCHECK Always show power-on security options. Disabled, set to 1 to enable. CSS Assume Clent Security Software (CSS) is installed. Disabled, set to 1 to enable. All properties are optional. To uninstall, use /x instead of /i. During standard uninstall with user interface, dialogs for selecting whether to delete existing passports and disable the boot security feature are displayed. In silent uninstall, you can use the following properties: DELPAS Set DELPAS="1" to delete existing passports. If these properties are not defined, or have any other value, passports are left on the computer and the boot security remains enabled. If you leave the boot security on, you will not be able to edit fingerprints in the boot security memory unless you re-install the Protector Suite. Example: Setup.exe DELPAS="1" /q /x uninstalls Protector Suite QL, deletes all existing passports, and leaves the boot security on. SMS INSTALL =========== SMS Installations are also supported. Open SMS Administrator Console, create a new package and set package properties in a standard way. Open the package and select New-Program in Programs item. To the command line field, enter Setup.exe /m yourmiffilename /q /i Optionally, enter desired parameters as described in the Silent Install section. Setup normally reboots at the end of installation process. If you want to suppress all reboots during installation and reboot later (after installing more programs), add REBOOT="ReallySuppress" to the list of properties. LIMITATIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS ============================== Standby problem: The computer can be awakened from standby using the fingerprint reader even if "Allow this device to bring PC out of standby" is unchecked. The driver is not able to turn off remote wakeup when remote wakeup is disabled and selective suspend is enabled in the device manager. Both check boxes must be unchecked for the correct behavior. Application upgrade: This build can upgrade Fingerprint Software 5.6.2, 5.8.2, and 5.8.4. An error message will show up when upgrading the application from 5.5.
