Lenovo Client Security Solution Upgrade Assistant (7.0 to 8.0) for Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000, XP, and Vista (32-bit only) Version 30 January 2007 Installation Readme Purpose ======= This utility stores key files, data files, and policies from Client Security Solution version 7.0 for use with Client Security Solution version 8.0. When Client Security Solution 7.0 is uninstalled all key files, data files, and policies are deleted. There is no direct upgrade path from Client Security Solution version 7.0 to Client Security Solution version 8.0. Important ========= Client Security Solution version 8.0 does not support PrivateDisk. If you want to continue to use PrivateDisk, do not uninstall Client Security Solution version 7.0. Uninstall Client Security Solution 8.0. 2. Open a command prompt. 3. Change to directory C:\Program Files\lenovo. 4. Type css8_upgrade_asst.exe /nogui /restore and press Enter. 5. Reinstall Client Security Solution 8.0. Downloading the package ======================= 1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files. 3. Make note of the executable file name and location. Installing the package ====================== 1. Browse to the location where you saved the downloaded executable file. 2. Double-click the executable file icon. 3. Click Next. 4. Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Client Security Solution. 5. Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive and the installation routine will start automatically. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. Upgrade Procedure ================= End users --------- Complete the following procedure to use the Upgrade Assistant: 1. Do NOT UNINSTALL VERSION 7.0 2. Double-click the css8_upgrade_asst.exe file. A message is displayed indicating a successful completion. 3. Uninstall Client Security Solution 7.0 and restart the computer. A message is displayed indicating that your data was restored successfully. 4. Install Client Security Solution version 8.0. Large Enterprise users ---------------------- Usage ===== Complete the following procedure to use the Upgrade Assistant: 1. DO NOT UNINSTALL VERSION 7.0!!! 2. From a command line, enter the appropriate command use the following syntax for power-user mode: WARNING: This mode is intended for experienced users and system administrators who may need to run this utilty with a script. ======================================================================================================= css8_upgrade_asst.exe [/? | /statuscodes] [/runkey] [/verbose] [/nogui {/archive | /restore | /delete}] css8_upgrade_asst.exe - Simply runs the migration utility and saves the appropriate data to the user's local hard disk. Where... /?: Displays the help screen, which contains this information. May not be used with the /statuscodes switch. /statuscodes: Display list of status/exit codes and their meanings. May not be used with the /? switch. /runkey: To restore data from an archive. The Client Security Solution data must be present on the user's hard disk. The /runkey switch is used ONLY after running the program with no arguments and archiving the data to the local disk. /verbose: Verbose mode. Display all debugging messages to screen. /nogui: Silent mode. Display no messages to screen. This switch must be used with one of: /archive, /restore, or /delete. Will still return an exit code back to a calling script. /archive: Forces archive (save) of files and registry settings to a temporary area in the hard disk. This switch will ONLY work if Client Security Solution version 7.0 is currently installed on the user's system. /restore: Forces restore of files and registry settings. This switch will leave the temporary archived data on the user's hard disk. This switch will work ONLY if there is NO Client Security Solution software installed on the user's machine. /delete: Remove temporary archive files from local hard disk. By default, this utility will leave the archived files on the user's hard disk. The information below lists status/exit codes returned from the program. After successful completion, uninstall Client Security Solution 7.0 (reboot as needed) 4. After a reboot a message will appear describing that your data was successfully restored. You may now install Client Security Solution version 8.0.
