User can create, edit, delete and apply all types of profile. The user can also enable the ThinkVantage Access Connections Administrator Profile Deployment Feature, which allows the user to deploy the location profiles created to other ThinkVantage Access Connections client. A Power user can use all the features of ThinkVantage Access Connections like a user with administrator privilege except: 1. The ThinkVantage Access Connections Administrator Profile Deployment Feature cannot be enabled. 2. Cannot edit "Network security" and "Override TCP/IP and DNS defaults" in the Additional Settings. A Power user can create, edit, delete and apply all types of profiles. A Limited user can create and apply only modem profiles. However, if Administrator sets "Allow Windows users without administrator privileges to create and apply location profiles" option in the Global settings then the user can create and apply any kinds of profiles in the system. Also, a limited user cannot: 1. Edit setting for the Automatic Ethernet and Wireless location profiles switching. 2. Edit Global settings. 3. Edit profiles created by another user in the system. 4. Renew or release IP in the Diagnostics panel. 5. Export profiles. The limitations on Power user also apply on Limited user. Access Connections does not support Guest Account type when logged on by Windows. 3. Tips for all Cisco wireless models ------------------------------------- Access Connections supports Cisco LEAP Authentication when you create a location profile with LEAP settings enabled. To utilize this feature, re-install the Cisco Aironet Client utility version 6.3.011 or later with the LEAP authentication feature selected. Run IWSETUP.EXE to install the Utility and choose the "LEAP" option at the Select Options menu of the installer. The Cisco Aironet Client utility is contained in an additional package, "Wireless LAN Software for Cisco Wireless LAN MiniPCI Card for Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP for ThinkPad". 4. Import/Export location profile for wireless adapter ------------------------------------------------------ Access Connections allows you to import/export location profile for wireless adapter. However, function is limited not to export "WEP Key" due to keep security as much as possible. If location profile for wireless adapter is imported, it is required to input "WEP Key" again. 5. Unattended uninstallation ---------------------------- This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows XP and log on with administrative privileges. 2. Double-click the package you downloaded to extract the Access Connections files to the hard drive. 3. Click Start then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\ACCON\SETUP.EXE -s -SMS -remove -f1 and click OK to install the Access Connections application. : full path of the "uninst.iss" Note: If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. 6. Tips for PEAP-GTC -------------------- -With using "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter", PEAP-GTC authentication only supported for saved user ID/password. Software/hardware token is not supported. -PEAP-GTC with windows username and password (SSO) is not supported. -Wireless encryption of AES is not supported for PEAP-GTC. 7. Tips for EAP-TTLS -------------------- MS-CHAP-V2 and PAP authentication protocol are supported as password protocol (tunneling protocol). Any other password protocol such as EAP-TLS, EAP-MD5 or EAP-Token is not supported. 8. Tips for automatic location profile switching using Ethernet adapter ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ThinkVantage Access Connections version 3.0 or later supports automatic location profile switching for location profiles which uses Ethernet Adapter. (Limitation: The Ethernet connection must be configured in DHCP mode.) It enabled to remember multiple ethernet port information per profile. This new feature allows sharing single ethernet profile at different places without losing automatic location switching. This feature eliminates having to manually apply the Ethernet profile every time you return to locations. ThinkVantage Access Connections will activate the Ethernet profile for your multiple Ethernet port locations when you simply connect an Ethernet cable to your computer. This requires the following steps to use: - Check "Include Ethernet connections in automatic switching and prompt me to save Ethernet ports" from "Location Switching" menu. - Select your Ethernet location profile (e.g., Office-A profile) and connect manually. - Then, Access Connections saves the Ethernet port address silently for your profile applied internally. - When you move to another location and connect to another Ethernet port, do the same steps to save the Ethernet port location information (e.g., Office-B). When you choose the existing location profile (e.g., Office-B profile), this Ethernet port location information will be added in the profile. - Next time, when you connect to the Ethernet port in Office-A or in Office-B, Access Connections loads the associated location profile (i.e. Office-A or Office-B) automatically. - Thus, Access Connections remembers multiple Ethernet port location information associated with one Ethernet location profile so that Ethernet port detection can be made automatically next time when you connect to the same ports. 9. Tips for profile switching by Fn+F5 hotkey --------------------------------------------- -ThinkVantage Access Connection supports new feature of switching location profile by Fn+F5 hotkey. This feature will only work with the following software. - Power Management Driver for Windows Vista/XP/2000/ME/98 SE version 1.42 or higher - ThinkPad Hotkey Features for Windows 98/98 SE/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP version 1.24.0603 or higher or Hotkey Features for Windows Vista/XP/2000 version 2.01.0703 or higher (Note: Refer to each Hotkey package for which version to use.) -The Fn+F5 hotkey are only supported in ThinkPad built-in wireless LAN Adapters or built-in wireless WAN adapters. 10. Tips for Automatically/Manually Prompt for LEAP User Name and Password -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Automatically Prompt for LEAP User Name and Password This allows user to connect LEAP profile with cached LEAP user name and password. Access Connections prompts user to enter LEAP user name and password in the following case. - First connection after system starts/reboots and windows logon - Re-connection after windows logoff and logon 2. Manually Prompt for LEAP User Name and Password This requires user to input LEAP user name and password whenever LEAP connection is made. When user clicks "connect" button or LEAP profile is activated, Access Connections prompts for LEAP user name and password. 11. Tips for using Access connections with ThinkVantage Productivity center --------------------------------------------------------------------------- To use Access Connections with ThinkVantage Productivity Center, you must install ThinkPad Hotkey Features V1.20 or later. 12. Known issue with Sierra Wireless Modem Device -------------------------------------------------- - If Wireless WAN profile is created by Access Connections and launch VZAccess manager software to connect, Access Connections main window will display IP address and shows the status as operational but if user moves the mouse pointer to Access connections icon in the task tray, it will show blank status. When VZAccess manager software is launched, turn on or off Wireless WAN radio must be controlled by using VZAccess Manager utility. - If Wireless WAN profile is created by Access Connections without launching VZAccess manager but specified with "Connect using Access Connections", all connection and Wireless WAN status information is managed by Access Connections software. In this case, such limitation does not exist. - If Wireless WAN profile is created by Access Connections specifying to launch Vodafone application software (i.e. Vodafone Mobile Connect utility), all wireless WAN function is controlled by this application. Access Connection does not provide the function to create the Wireless WAN profile with full access to this device in this version. 13. Tips for going backward version Access Connections ------------------------------------------------------ Once Access Connections 4.0 or higher is installed as upgrade install from previous version (3.x), your location profile data is already converted to Access Connections 4.x format. If you need to uninstall Access Connections 4.x and reinstall older version Access Connections, your previous location profile can be restored by applying the registry patch. Access Connections 3.x location profile is preserved as PrevACProf.reg format in Access Connections installed directory, i.e. \Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities. Apply this registry patch once you installed older version Access Connections. For downgrade installation, uninstall first the current version of Access Connections installed in your system and install the downgrade version that you wish to install. Make sure when downgrade installation is made, Wireless LAN drivers should be also matched with downgrade level versions. 14. Tips for using Cisco AIRONET CB21AG 802.11 a/b/g wireless adapter --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. EAP-TLS profile will fail to connect if currently logged in windows user does not have password to log into Windows. 2. The AEGIS protocol bind to the Cisco AIRONET CB2AG 80211a/b/g wireless adapter may be incorrect if the system has other AEGIS software installed from before. In such cases, 802.1x profile may not work. The current recommended version of AEGIS protocol is, 3.4.1.0 This version is available when installing Cisco AIRONET adapter software. 3. When this adapter is used, it is required to install Cisco Aironet Utility in the system. 15. Tips for Wireless WAN radio control using Fn+F5 hotkey ---------------------------------------------------------- Access Connections supports ThinkPad internal wireless WAN radio control using Fn+F5 hot key. You can turn on or turn off wireless WAN adapter radio using this keys. However, since wireless WAN adapter allows only one application exclusively to be accessed, there is one limitation to use this function. When your Wireless WAN application such as Verizon VZAccess Manager or Vodafone Mobile Connect utility software is using the WAN adapter, on-screen display launched by Fn+F5 key hides the Wireless WAN adapter on this menu. Or other case is when the on-screen display is showing the WAN adapter by Fn+F5 key, other WAN application is suspended until this on-screen window is closed. Once this on- screen display window is closed, Access Connections release the exclusive control so that other application program can take the ownership for it's exclusive use. 16. Tips for Wireless WAN LOA and LOC import -------------------------------------------- Access Connections supports import of Wireless WAN profile. However, on the event that a certain profile created using Verizon WAN adapter is imported to a machine having Vodafone/Cingular WAN adapter or vice versa, Access Connections' main window panel will be showing "Adapter not found" and when this profile is edited, Wireless WAN setting page will be grayed out (all settings are disabled). This is the current design of Access Connections from versions 4.2 and above for WAN profile import. 17. Tips for default Network security setting --------------------------------------------- Network security setting was changed as unchecked by default in Access Connections 4.20. So Access Connections does not interfere with Windows network setting by default. 18. Tips for failure of Sierra Watcher's initialization ------------------------------------------------------- When Sierra Watcher is launched quickly after Access Connections Main panel is opened, "searching for modem" message is showed and initialization fails. But it succeeds after waiting for about 1 minute. 19. Tips for "Use the Welcome Screen" on PC with Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When Access Connections is installed in PC with Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter, "Select logon and logoff options" in the User Accounts is disabled. 20. Steps for automatic creation of AT&T Mobile Broadband profile with Gobi 1000 (AT&T firmware) adapter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the AT&T sim card in the computer. 2. Download and install the Qualcomm UNDP Wireless WAN Adapter driver version 6.0.6.4 or higher. 3. After Qualcomm UNDP Wireless WAN Adapter installation, do not restart the computer, install the Access Connections version 5.21 or higher. 4. Restart the the computer after installation. 5. Launch Access Connections and notice that AT&T Mobile Broadband is added on the profile list. 21. Combination with ThinkVantage GPS ------------------------------------- ThinkVantage GPS2.5 and higher is required when you use GPS with this version of Access Connections. ================================================================================ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIMITATIONS Nothing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADEMARKS * Lenovo, ThinkPad and ThinkVantage are registered trademarks of Lenovo. * Access Connections is a trademark of Lenovo. * AT&T is a trademark of AT&T Intellectual Property. * Cisco and Aironet are registered trademarks of Cisco Systems, Inc. * Clearwire is a service mark of Clearwire Corporation. * Ericsson is a registered trademark of Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson. * Firefox is a registered trademark of Mozilla Foundation. * Google is a trademark of Google Inc. * IBM is a registered trademark of IBM Corporation. * Intel and Centrino are registered trademarks of Intel Corporation. * KPN is a registered trademark of Koninklijke KPN N.V.
