This package is for a retail version of the Windows XP installation. If your system has Windows XP preloaded, you have no need to install this package. Installing this package needs a USB floppy drive during Windows XP installation. If this package has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing) this package will fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. [Problem fixes] Nothing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Click Start. 2. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties. 3. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 4. Double-click the AHCI SCSI and RAID controllers category. 5. Double-click AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller. 6. Click the Driver tab. 7. Check Driver Version. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES This driver is required to install a retail version of the Windows XP into your computer under AHCI mode. - ThinkPad X131e,ThinkPad Edge E135 do not support the RAID feature of the driver. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. - Downloading and extracting the file should be done on Windows OS. Installation requires a USB floppy drive and a floppy disk. Manual Install This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Downloading file 1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen. 3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click Save. 4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click Save. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Extracting file 5. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account. 6. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded. 7. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it. 8. Follow the instructions on the screen. 9. In the Select Destination Location window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse. 10. In the Ready to Install window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9. 11. Uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation. 12. Copy all the extracted files in the folder selected in the step 9 into a floppy disk. Finally delete the file saved in the step 4. Installing files 13. Attach a USB floppy drive to the target ThinkPad computer and set the floppy disk created in the step 12. 14. Set the Windows XP installation disc on the optical drive. 15. Power on the ThinkPad computer and start installation. 16. Press the F6 key to select an external hard disk driver before continue installation. 17. Select AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller-x86 platform, then press Enter. 17. Follow the Windows XP install instruction and complete installation. UPDATE INSTALL 1. Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start and Control Panel. 3. Click Performance and Maintenance and System. 4. Click Hardware tab. 5. Click Device Manager button. 6. Double-click the SCSI and RAID controllers on Device Manager. 7. Double-click AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller. 8. Click Driver tab. 9. Click Update Driver button. 10. Select No, not this time and click Next. 11. Select Install from a list or specific location. 12. Click Next button. 13. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search. 14. Click Browse button. 15. Locate the driver folder and click OK button. 16. Click Next button. The driver installation starts. 17. Click Finish button when the installation completes. 18.
