Click Start, click Control Panel, then click Performance and Maintenance. 2. Click System, click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager. 3. Double-click Network adapters. 4. If either of the following adapters are there, double-click it and then select the Driver tab. - Intel(R) Wireless WiMax Link 5350 - Intel(R) Wireless WIMAX Link Function Driver The version and date of the driver are displayed, then exit. [Package] 1. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 2. Click Add or Remove programs. 3. Select Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiMax Software. 4. Click "Click here for support information". The Version will be displayed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - If you use ThinkVantage Access Connections, the following software must be installed. - ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows Vista version 5.1 or higher - ThinkPad Power Management Driver for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP/ Vista version 1.51 or higher - Hotkey Features for Windows Vista/XP/2000 version 2.09.0002 or higher ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. - Make sure that the following driver prerequisite were installed on your system before installing this driver: - Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (Download installer from http://www.microsoft.com) - UDP port 2948 needs to be opened in the firewall for successful activation and provisioning. Depending on the computer's firewall and security settings, the firewall's settings may need to be changed to allow the required communications. Manual Install This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Explorer. Downloading files 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. 4. After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted. Extracting files 5. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded. 6. Locate the file that was just downloaded and double click it using the left mouse button. 7. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. Install files 8. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 9. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted. 10. Double-click AutoRun.exe file. 11. Follow the instructions on the screen. Note: If you use ThinkVantage Access Connections, Intel PROSet/Wireless component needs to be installed as pre-selected during the above procedure. 12. Restart the computer*. Finally delete the file saved in the step 2. Unattended Install This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute AutoRun.exe with the /QN option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WIMAX\AutoRun.exe /QN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Note: - If winlogon.exe error or any problem occurs after uninstalling the software, re-install any version of the software for problem solving. Manual Uninstall 1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs and select Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiMax Software. 4. Click Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiMax Software. 5. Follow the instructions. Or 1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. In the run dialog window, type: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WIMAX\AutoRun.exe and click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 4. Check Remove, click Next, then click OK. 5. Follow the instructions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS 1. ThinkVantage Access Connections will not work if Windows XP Software Network Bridge connection is created. To recover the ThinkVantage Access Connections function: 1-1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 1-2. Click Start, select Settings, click Control Panel, then click Network Connections. 1-3. Confirm that the following Device Name belongs to "Network Bridge". Intel(R) Wireless WiMax Link 5350 1-4. Right-click its "Name" (Wireless Network Connection). 1-5. Click Remove from Bridge. 1-6. Confirm that it belongs to "LAN or High-Speed Internet". 1-7. Right-click its "Name" again and click Properties. 1-8. The Wireless Network connection Properties tab will open and under the General tab, Check at "WLAN Transport". 1-9. Restart the system. 2. ThinkVantage Access Connections may intermittently loose control of WiMAX device. To workaround Access Connections function: 2-1. Make sure that WiMAX drivers were installed on the machine. 2-2. Go to Start, Control Panel then select System Icon and click Device Manager. 2-3. Under Intel(R) WiMAX adapters, double-click on 'Intel(R) WiMAX Link 5350 Function Driver'. 2-4. Click on the Power Management tab, uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option. 2-5.
