Click Start, click Control Panel, then click Performance and Maintenance. 2. Click System, click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager. 3. Double-click Network adapters. 4. Double-click Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000. 5. Click the Driver tab. The version and date of the driver are displayed. [Package] 1. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 2. Click Add or Remove programs. 3. Select Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WIFI Software. 4. Click "Click here for support information". The Version will be displayed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - Make sure that the following driver prerequisite were installed on your system before installing this driver: - MSXML6.0 Parser or higher - Windows Installer 3.14 or higher (Download installer from http://www.microsoft.com) - If you use ThinkVantage Access Connections, the following software must be installed. - ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows XP/2000 version 5.32 or higher - ThinkPad Power Management Driver for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista version 1.51 or higher or ThinkPad Power Management Driver for SL Series version 1.44 or higher - Hotkey Features for Windows Vista/XP/2000 version 2.20.0100 or higher - You may need to re-enter security information after updating the Wireless LAN driver. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Note: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. Manual Install This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Explorer. Downloading files 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. 4. After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted. Extracting files 5. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded. 6. Locate the file that was just downloaded and double click it using the left mouse button. 7. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. Install files 8. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 9. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted. 10. Double-click Autorun.EXE. 11. Follow the instructions on the screen. Note: If you use ThinkVantage Access Connections, Intel PROSet/Wireless component needs to be installed as pre-selected during the above procedure. 12. Restart the computer. Finally delete the file saved in the step 2. Unattended Install This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute Autorun.EXE with the /QN option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\Autorun /QN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Note: If winlogon.exe error or any problem occurs after uninstalling the software, re-install any version of the software for problem solving. Manual Uninstall 1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 4. Double-click Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. 5. Click Next, select Remove, and then follow the instructions. Or 1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. In the run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\Autorun.EXE and click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 4. Click Next, select Remove, and then follow the instructions. Manual Unattended Uninstall This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute Autorun.EXE with the /QUIET /UNINSTALL option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\Autorun /QUIET /UNINSTALL -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS - ThinkVantage Access Connections will not work if Windows XP Software Network Bridge connection is created. To recover the ThinkVantage Access Connections function: 1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, click Control Panel, then click Network Connections. 3. Confirm that the following Device Name belongs to "Network Bridge". Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 4. Right-click its "Name" (Wireless Network Connection). 5. Click Remove from Bridge. 6. Confirm that it belongs to "LAN or High-Speed Internet." 7. Right-click its "Name" again and click Properties. 8. The Wireless Network connection Properties tab will open and under the General tab, Check at "WLAN Transport". 9. Restart the system. - Installing and deleting server/client certificate may not take effect immediately.
